The MIST board was designed to implement classic 16 bit computers like the Amiga and Atari ST(E) using modern hardware.
However it also supports 8bit systems
The MIST supports USB joysticks / keyboards / mice as well as standard classic 9-pin joysticks..
For video output, it has a VGA port (please note that - depending on the system - it might output a non-standard VGA Signal that does not work with every monitor. Most TVs with VGA input should work without any issues).
VGA offers the best video quality for those systems.
You need a normal MicroUSB-Power adaptor to power it.
This version has the MIDI-Addon included, so you can use it with MIDI-Devices (perfect for Atari ST-Midi-Veterans!)
The MIST reimplements the hardware of the systems - it does not emulate it.
It is fully OpenHardware and Software.
You can find more information about the MIST here: https://github.com/mist-devel/mist-board/wiki
The following systems are currently supported:
Computers: Atari ST, Amiga (ECS, AGA), MSX, Atari XL800, Apple II+, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum
Consoles: NES, Atari 5200, Chip8, PC Engine (HuCard), Atari 2600, SMS, ColecoVision
Arcade Machines: Space Invaders, Pengo, Pacman, Moon Patrol, Galaxian
The MIST supports the following hardware:
+ USB keyboards
+ USB mice
+ Classic C64 style joysticks
+ SD cards
+ VGA screens
+ USB joysticks/gamepads
Currently unsupported are (might change with firmware updates):
+ Original Atari ST and Amiga mice
+ USB storage devices (thumb drives)
+ USB bluetooth dongles
A small presentation video of the MIST:
Please note: The MIST is NOT Plug and Play!
Before you can use it, you need to set up your SD Card with the cores and proper files.
That's not hard, as we offer a ZIP-File which you only need to extract onto your SD Card to get started!
If you run into issues, you can ask us or at some webboards.
Here is an additional extensive First-Setup-Guide:
Inside the box, you'll only find the MIST in a case. Nothing else, so be sure to get all cables (e.g. VGA) and accessories (joysticks, SD Cards, etc.) you need as well in case you don't have those already.
This is the brand new 1.3 PLUS version which has the following changes compared to the v1.2:
1. new micro usb power connector (THT, heavy duty)
2. added 5v jumper to the VGA pin 9 for cheap VGA-HDMI converters
3. VGA moved approx. away 5mm from audio jack
4. added under light for modern look (green)
5. redesigned metal casing (lower profile) and shorter tacts
6. connected VGA ID to MUSB GPIO (added zener diodes for protection); added three transistors to the VGA output which should improve video linearity
Of course, the software is 100% compatible with the previous version.
